Manitoba Pioneer Camp, has a 60+ year history of developing young people into mature adults. An important part of the history are the canoes used for wilderness camping. MPC still has 18 wood and canvas canoes, some are in service. These are the stories of those canoe, but really, these are the stories of the people who have used and loved them.

Manitoba Pioneer Camp still has 18 wood & canvas canoes, some are in service, many are not. These canoes are a significant and valuable heritage for camp. They are not just vessels of transportation but vessels of memory.
Caring for them and restoring them is an action of stewardship.
Writing about these canoes is a way to preserve and to share our memories.
As each canoe is restored to service, it will be named. A named canoe is much easier to identify. This will make it far easier to connect our memories with a specific canoe, to learn of its history, and to connect with all those who have gone before us in that canoe.
We invite you to contribute your stories and photos...and please add to the blog with your comments!
